The Independent National Electoral Commission has commenced the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards in the Federal Capital Territory ahead of the February 21 Area Council elections.
The commission announced the development on Tuesday and urged eligible voters in the FCT to seize the opportunity to collect their PVCs before the polls.
INEC said the exercise will run from January 22 to January 26 at designated Registration Areas, also known as wards, across the territory. Collection is scheduled to take place daily between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
The electoral body explained that voters who are unable to pick up their cards within the five-day window at their wards will still have the opportunity to do so afterward at INEC Area Council offices throughout the FCT.
In a public notice, the commission assured residents that the arrangement is aimed at making PVC collection easier and more accessible ahead of the council elections.
INEC also encouraged voters to actively participate in the process, stressing that possession of a Permanent Voter Card remains a key requirement for voting on election day.
The February 21 election will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will see 17 political parties contesting for elective positions across the 62 wards in the Federal Capital Territory.
The commission reiterated its commitment to ensuring a smooth electoral process and called on voters to collect their cards early to avoid last-minute challenges.
