Vice chairmen of local governments elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State have called on Governor Ademola Adeleke to account for local government allocations received over a 13-month period.

The demand was made by the Forum of Local Government Vice Chairmen in the state, which alleged that more than ₦200 billion accrued to Osun local governments between December 2022 and January 2025.

In a statement signed by the forum’s chairman, Victor Fatoki, and released in Osogbo on Friday, the group said available figures showed that huge sums were received within the period but claimed there was little evidence of corresponding development at the grassroots.

The vice chairmen urged the governor to demonstrate transparency by publicly accounting for how the funds were utilised across the local government areas.

According to the forum, several councils, including Atakunmosa East, Ila, Ifedayo, Boluwaduro and Obokun allegedly lack visible projects that could justify the volume of allocations reportedly received.

The group expressed concern over what it described as poor financial accountability at the local government level, noting that the situation raised serious questions about governance and fiscal responsibility.

Responding to the allegations, Governor Adeleke dismissed the forum as unknown to the law and the state, saying it did not deserve any formal response.

Speaking through his deputy spokesperson, Oladele Bamiji, the governor warned that the APC group was attempting to disrupt public order and cautioned against actions capable of causing unrest in the state.

Adeleke insisted that there was no legally recognized forum of local government vice chairmen elected on the platform of any political party in Osun State, describing the group as an attempt to gain attention through false claims.

He said entities without legal standing could not demand accountability from the state government, adding that he would not be distracted by what he described as mischief.

The dispute is unfolding amid an ongoing legal battle between the Osun State Government and the opposition APC over the control and administration of local governments in the state.

The conflict, which has been before various courts, has stalled local government administration since February 2025, further deepening political tension over council resources and authority.
