President Bola Tinubu has ordered security chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri following deadly bomb explosions that killed at least 23 people in Borno State.
The president described the attacks as disturbing and vowed that those responsible would be tracked down and defeated.
In a statement, Tinubu said the bombings were carried out by criminal and terrorist elements attempting to spread fear among residents.
He directed security leaders to move to Maiduguri immediately and take full control of the situation on ground.
Tinubu also ordered emergency agencies to provide proper medical care for those injured in the attacks.
He assured Nigerians that the government is strengthening security operations nationwide to prevent further incidents.
“There is no place in Nigeria where terrorists will find safety,” the president said, adding that security forces will locate and confront those behind the attacks.
Authorities confirmed that the explosions occurred on Monday, with police reporting 23 deaths and over 100 people injured.
According to officials, the attacks were carried out by suspected suicide bombers.
Security operatives, including the military and police tactical teams, have since been deployed to the affected areas to restore order.
Witnesses said the first explosion occurred at a busy market, causing panic as people tried to flee.
Moments later, another blast was reported near a post office, hitting people who were escaping from the first scene.
Survivors described a chaotic situation, with many caught in the second explosion while attempting to find safety.
Meanwhile, the Northern Senators’ Forum and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum condemned the attacks and expressed condolences to victims and their families.
They also called for stronger security measures to prevent similar incidents.
The president praised the efforts of security forces, noting their role in resisting coordinated attacks on military positions in the state.
He added that his administration has approved additional equipment and operational support to improve the capacity of security agencies.
The incident comes as the government continues efforts to tackle insecurity in the North-East and other parts of the country.
