Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to directly target leaders of Iran’s elite military force following a deadly missile strike on southern Israel.
Speaking during a visit to the affected town of Arad, Netanyahu declared that Israel would intensify its response against Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
“We’re going after the regime. We’re going after the IRGC,” he said, stressing that both leadership and strategic assets would be targeted.
The remarks came after Iranian missiles struck two southern Israeli towns, Arad and Dimona, injuring more than 100 people.
Dimona, located in the Negev desert, is widely believed to house Israel’s sensitive nuclear infrastructure, making the attack particularly significant.
Emergency responders reported that dozens of civilians were wounded in the strikes, with several in critical condition. The blasts caused extensive damage to residential buildings and surrounding infrastructure.
According to Israeli authorities, the country’s air defence systems failed to intercept at least one of the incoming missiles — a development that has triggered an internal military review.
Netanyahu urged citizens to strictly follow safety directives, warning that the entire nation is effectively on the frontline amid escalating tensions.
“The whole nation is a frontline,” he said, calling on residents to immediately seek shelter during missile alerts.
Iranian state media described the strike as retaliation for an earlier attack on a nuclear facility in Natanz.
The exchange marks a sharp escalation in hostilities between Israel and Iran, raising fears of a broader regional conflict.
Security analysts warn that continued retaliatory actions could destabilise the Middle East further, with potential global implications for energy markets and international security.
As investigations continue into the failed missile interception, Israel is expected to reassess its defence posture while preparing for possible further attacks.
