The Nigerian Senate has directed the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to immediately investigate the recent wave of killings in Plateau State and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
The resolution followed a motion raised by Diket Plang during plenary, which received strong backing from fellow lawmakers representing the state.
The motion highlighted the urgent need to intensify security operations in affected areas, particularly Kanam and Jos North Local Government Areas, where deadly attacks have recently occurred.
Lawmakers expressed deep concern over the resurgence of violence in Plateau, especially the attack in Anguwan Rukuba, which claimed several lives and left many others injured.
In response, the Senate resolved to dispatch a high-level delegation led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio to visit the affected communities and sympathise with victims.
The chamber also called on the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs to urgently provide relief materials to those impacted by the violence.
A minute of silence was observed in honour of the victims, reflecting the gravity of the situation.
While presenting the motion, Plang lamented that Plateau, once celebrated as a peaceful and tourism-friendly state, has suffered repeated security breakdowns over the years.
He warned that the recent attacks appeared coordinated and targeted at vulnerable civilians, raising fears of escalating insecurity with complex ethnic and religious dimensions.
The Senate stressed the need for decisive action, noting that continued violence threatens the stability of the region and undermines public confidence in security efforts.
The resolution signals renewed pressure on security agencies to curb the killings and restore lasting peace in the state.
