A new layer of political maneuvering is emerging in Bauchi as Bala Mohammed engages in high-level talks that could determine his next political move ahead of the 2027 elections.

On Wednesday, the Bauchi governor received Nentawe Yilwatda, the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in a private meeting at the Government House. Also present was Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

While neither side disclosed details of the discussion, political insiders believe the visit may not be unconnected to ongoing efforts to influence Mohammed’s reported defection plans.

The meeting comes shortly after the governor held separate consultations with leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a platform increasingly seen as a possible destination.

Mohammed, who currently chairs the PDP Governors’ Forum, has openly acknowledged deep divisions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing reconciliation attempts as unsuccessful.

According to him, the internal crisis has forced his camp to explore alternative political alignments, with the ADC appearing more receptive so far.

However, he also indicated that his group had previously considered joining the APC but felt sidelined during initial engagements.

His remarks suggest that the situation remains fluid, with negotiations still ongoing across multiple political fronts.

As political realignments gather momentum, Mohammed’s eventual decision could play a significant role in shaping alliances ahead of the next general elections.
