President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has held a crucial meeting with Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang as concerns deepen over the recent wave of violence in the state.

The closed-door discussion took place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday, just days after a deadly attack in Jos claimed several lives and heightened tension across the region.

Governor Mutfwang arrived at the State House in the evening, with the meeting coming shortly after the President summoned him to provide an update on the deteriorating security situation.

The violence, which struck parts of Jos during a religious period, drew strong condemnation from the presidency. Tinubu described the attackers as ruthless and vowed that those responsible would face justice.

He also extended his concerns to another incident in Kaduna State, where residents were attacked during a social gathering, further raising alarm about security challenges in parts of northern Nigeria.

While acknowledging the state government’s response efforts, the President directed security agencies to intensify operations aimed at tracking down those behind the attacks and preventing further bloodshed.

He also warned against narratives that could inflame tensions, particularly reports framing the violence along religious lines.

The meeting is believed to have focused on immediate and long-term strategies to stabilise Plateau State and restore public confidence.

In a significant move, the President has adjusted his official schedule to prioritise the crisis. Instead of a planned visit to Ogun State, he will travel to Jos on Thursday to sympathise with affected communities and assess the situation firsthand.

The visit is expected to send a strong signal of federal attention to the crisis, as authorities work to contain the situation and prevent further escalation.
