Trump’s Battle Against NYC’s Congestion Pricing Faces Major Legal Roadblocks!
President Donald Trump is taking aim at New York City’s congestion pricing program, but legal experts say his efforts to kill the tolling system may not hold up in court.
In a bold move, Trump and his new Transportation Secretary, Sean P. Duffy, declared the program “dead”, claiming they have the power to shut it down. Duffy, who has barely settled into his new role, wrote to New York Governor Kathy Hochul stating that he had “concluded” the tolling system was “not eligible” under federal law.
Trump, never one for subtlety, took to social media with an all-caps declaration:
“CONGESTION PRICING IS DEAD, Manhattan, and all of New York is SAVED. LONG LIVE THE KING!”
But legal experts aren’t convinced.

Despite Trump’s confidence, environmental and administrative law professor Robert L. Glicksman from George Washington University dismissed the claim, stating:
“Declaring ‘I’m the king’ is not sufficient grounds for reversing the program.”
The congestion pricing plan, years in the making, was designed to reduce traffic, cut emissions, and fund public transportation improvements. Killing it won’t be as simple as a presidential proclamation.
