The search for 15-year-old Azalea Strifler has intensified as authorities race against time to locate the missing teen, whose disappearance has left her family and community in deep distress. According to the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office, Azalea’s mother, Cameo Strifler, reported her daughter missing early Tuesday morning at approximately 6:15 a.m. She believes Azalea was picked up outside their home on Storey Acres Road by an unknown individual. However, there has been no information regarding who might have taken her or what kind of vehicle was involved in the disappearance.
Azalea is described as having blonde hair and blue eyes, standing 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighing around 110 pounds. With no substantial leads emerging, authorities have escalated their efforts, deploying specialized units and engaging federal law enforcement to track her down.
FBI and SBI Join the Search
By Thursday, the second day of the search, both the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had joined the case. K-9 units have been dispatched to scour the area, while agents are conducting exhaustive door-to-door searches, speaking with neighbors, friends, and potential witnesses.
Checkpoints have been established throughout the surrounding community in hopes of uncovering crucial information. Despite these extensive efforts, the search has yet to yield positive results. According to the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office, “Both the K-9 search and the canvass of the area produced negative results. Deputies also interviewed numerous friends immediately after the mother reported the juvenile missing, but no leads were found.”

Concerns have also arisen over the delay in issuing the Amber Alert. Many residents reported that the Emergency Alert Service notification did not reach their phones until nearly 1 p.m. Wednesday—almost two hours after the disappearance was first confirmed.
Morrissa Moyer from the Center for Missing Persons, which oversees Amber Alerts in North Carolina, admitted that a recent system upgrade caused the delay. “What we wanted to do was try to accomplish three separate processes with one process,” she explained. “In the future, we will be able to do these alerts very quickly, precisely, and get the information out to those who need to know.” However, for Azalea and her family, time is a luxury they cannot afford to lose.

Moyer also pointed out a troubling statistic—15-year-old girls are particularly vulnerable in missing person cases. “Fifteen-year-old females, specifically minority females, go missing the most. We don’t have a definitive explanation for why this happens, but it aligns with both state and national trends,” she noted.
