President Bola Tinubu has paid a heartfelt tribute to Namibia’s first president, Dr. Sam Nujoma, celebrating his enduring legacy as a fearless warrior for African freedom. Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the state burial in Windhoek, Tinubu hailed Nujoma as more than a leader—he was a movement that reshaped history.

In an emotional eulogy, Tinubu declared that Nujoma’s death was not an end but the beginning of his immortality in Africa’s collective memory. “We have not come to bury a man. We have come to enshrine a legacy,” he said, emphasizing Nujoma’s relentless fight against oppression and his pivotal role in building an independent Namibia.

Tinubu also reaffirmed Nigeria’s deep-rooted support for Namibia’s liberation, recalling how Nigeria stood firm during the country’s struggle against apartheid. “When the world turned its back, we stood. When your voice was drowned by the guns of apartheid, we spoke. Your struggle was our struggle.”

The funeral was attended by African leaders, including South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and Zimbabwe’s Emmerson Mnangagwa, underscoring Nujoma’s towering influence across the continent. As Namibia mourns, Africa celebrates a hero whose impact will never fade.
