ABUJA – The political storm between Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Godswill Akpabio has taken a new twist, with Akpoti-Uduaghan warning Akpabio’s wife, Unoma, to stay out of the controversy surrounding allegations of sexual harassment and intimidation against her husband.
In a strongly worded letter dated March 1, 2025, and addressed through her lawyer, Victor Giwa, Akpoti-Uduaghan urged Mrs. Akpabio to refrain from defending her husband, emphasizing that the accusations were personal and should be handled by the Senate President himself.
The feud began when Akpoti-Uduaghan refused to take a designated seat during a Senate session, citing procedural rules. Matters escalated when she appeared on Arise News, accusing Akpabio of blocking her legislative motions and subjecting her to intimidation after she allegedly rejected his advances.
Mrs. Akpabio dismissed the claims in a press conference, describing them as baseless and highlighting the longstanding cordial relationship between their families. However, Akpoti-Uduaghan fired back, asserting that she had endured harassment for too long and was now speaking out.
“Our client has concrete evidence to substantiate her allegations. We suggest you allow your husband to defend himself and maintain your own sanity and that of your family,” the letter stated.
Akpoti-Uduaghan reiterated her commitment to defending women’s rights and upholding family values, making it clear that she would not back down.
As the controversy unfolds, Nigerians are closely watching to see how the Senate President responds to the allegations without his wife’s intervention.
