Pope Francis, 88, remains in a stable condition after a recent breathing crisis, with no fever and improving health, the Vatican confirmed on Saturday. The head of the Catholic Church, who has been hospitalized for two weeks with double pneumonia, continues to receive oxygen but remains alert, praying, and eating.

Doctors say his blood circulation is stable, and he has no signs of a worsening infection. However, his prognosis remains cautious.

The pontiff was admitted to Rome’s Gemelli Hospital on February 14 for bronchitis, which later developed into pneumonia. Last weekend, concerns peaked as he suffered a severe respiratory episode requiring urgent medical attention, sparking global prayers for his recovery.

On Friday, his condition briefly worsened due to a bronchospasm episode that caused vomiting and further affected his lungs. Doctors warned that the next 24 to 48 hours would be critical in assessing his recovery.

Despite his illness, Pope Francis has continued to work from his hospital suite, though his prolonged absence from public view has reignited speculation about his ability to lead the Church. This marks his fourth hospital stay since 2021, and his longest yet.

Pilgrims and well-wishers, undeterred by the rain, gathered outside the hospital, lighting candles and offering prayers. Messages of support, including handwritten notes from children and balloons with the Pope’s image, filled the space outside Gemelli.
