Fubara Denies Receiving Budget Ultimatum as Rivers Political Tension Escalates

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has denied receiving any letter from the Martin Amaewhule-led State House of Assembly demanding he present the 2025 budget within 48 hours.

With the deadline set to expire by midnight on Wednesday, March 5, the state government, through Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Tammy Danagogo, addressed a fresh letter to Speaker Martins Amaewhule, clarifying that no such communication had reached the Governor’s office, the Deputy Governor’s office, or the Accountant-General’s office.

Waiting on Supreme Court Judgment

Danagogo further reminded the lawmakers that in a state-wide broadcast on March 2, Governor Fubara reaffirmed his commitment to obeying the Supreme Court’s judgment, despite his personal views.

“We are still awaiting the certified true copy of the Supreme Court rulings,” the letter stated. “Once received, His Excellency will implement the decisions in the best interest of the people of Rivers State.”

Asari Dokubo Warns Against Impeachment Plot

Meanwhile, Niger Delta leader and traditional ruler, Asari Dokubo, has issued a stern warning to President Bola Tinubu, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, and the 27 pro-Wike lawmakers, urging them to drop any alleged plans to impeach Governor Fubara.

Speaking in a live Facebook broadcast, the Amanyanabo of the Elem Kalabari Kingdom cautioned that any attempt to unseat Fubara could lead to political unrest and destabilization in Rivers State.

His statement follows heightened political tension after the Supreme Court reinstated the 27 lawmakers who defected from the PDP to APC, effectively tilting legislative power in favor of Wike’s camp.
