Senator Opeyemi Bamidele (Ekiti Central) has advised his embattled colleague, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (Kogi Central), to familiarize herself with the Senate’s rules amid the controversy surrounding her suspension.
Speaking during Thursday’s plenary, Bamidele revealed that he and other lawmakers had tried to prevent the situation from escalating. He also refuted claims that senators were inactive, stressing that legislative duties often extend late into the night, sometimes until 2 a.m.
This comes after Senator Neda Imasuen dismissed Akpoti-Uduaghan’s allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, calling them baseless and insisting she was not being silenced.
Senate Committee’s Key Decisions:
- Six-month suspension from all legislative activities, effective March 6, 2025.
- Immediate surrender of all Senate properties in her possession.
- Restricted access to the Senate chamber throughout the suspension.
The controversy erupted last Thursday when Akpoti-Uduaghan protested the reassignment of her seat by Akpabio. She arrived at the session to find her nameplate removed and her seat changed, sparking outrage as she demanded an explanation for what she perceived as an unjustified decision.
