Former Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, is currently being interrogated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of misappropriation, procurement fraud, and diversion of public funds amounting to N138,413,253.89.
Sources revealed that Ohanenye arrived at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja around 11:00 AM on Thursday and has been under intense questioning regarding irregularities in the disbursement of the ministry’s 2023 budget. Investigators suspect that funds earmarked for the P-BAT Cares for Women Initiative were allegedly diverted for personal enrichment.
A senior EFCC official confirmed that the former minister is also facing scrutiny for additional fraudulent dealings, including violations of procurement laws and unauthorized spending of public funds.
“The investigation has uncovered clear breaches of due process in the disbursement of funds meant for women-focused programs. Operatives are thoroughly questioning her alleged involvement in the fraudulent transactions,” the source stated.
As the interrogation continues, Nigerians await further developments on the case, which highlights ongoing concerns over corruption within public offices.
