“No Mercy Abroad” – Dele Momodu Warns Nigerians About the Harsh Reality of Japa

Renowned media entrepreneur Dele Momodu has issued a stark warning to Nigerians eager to leave the country in search of greener pastures abroad. In a candid interview with Teju Babyface, Momodu urged citizens to rethink their pursuit of a better life overseas, emphasizing that financial stability and opportunities are within reach in Nigeria.

According to him, having ₦30-40 million in Nigeria is enough to establish a thriving business, whether it’s a ranch, farm, or other ventures, rather than enduring the financial strain of living abroad.

Momodu painted a grim picture of life outside Nigeria, explaining that while moving overseas may seem glamorous at first, the reality of high bills, expensive rent, and lack of support can quickly become overwhelming.

“If you had ₦30-40 million in Nigeria and you think you’re a poor man, I beg you, you’re a mad man. You can’t set up a proper business in Nigeria with that? Think again,” he stated.

Highlighting global security concerns, he pointed out that no country is completely safe, referencing a tragic incident where 3,000 people were killed in New York in a single day. Yet, he noted, Americans didn’t abandon their country because of it.

Momodu also reflected on the hospitality dynamic abroad. He explained that while visiting family on vacation feels warm and welcoming, the mood shifts drastically when they realize you’re staying longer. Renting a home and covering bills without financial backing, he stressed, leads to a lifelong struggle.

“The attraction of staying abroad is that when you go on vacation, everyone welcomes you. But the moment they realize you’re not leaving soon, you’ll see the difference. And once you rent your own house, that’s the trauma you’ll carry for life. No mercy. Once your money finishes, your life goes. No mercy. Just remember that Dele Momodu said, ‘No mercy abroad.’”
