OSORIO’S NIGHTMARE: FROM GLORY TO HUMILIATION IN 30 MINUTES!

Juan Carlos Osorio, head coach of Club Tijuana, found himself reliving a personal footballing disaster after his team collapsed spectacularly against Atlas in a 3-4 thriller at Estadio Caliente. The Xolos were cruising with a 3-0 lead by the 60th minute, only to suffer one of the most astonishing meltdowns in Liga MX history—conceding four goals in the final half-hour.

HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF: FROM 7-0 TO ANOTHER NIGHTMARE

Osorio did not shy away from drawing comparisons to one of the darkest moments of his coaching career: Mexico’s infamous 7-0 defeat to Chile in the Copa América. The Colombian tactician, clearly devastated, took full responsibility for the debacle:

“I’ve had painful disappointments in football—like the 7-0 against Chile—but this one left me deeply saddened. I rushed my substitutions, I got the names wrong, and I put too much pressure on the young players.”

A COACH’S GAMBLE GONE WRONG

Osorio made a trio of bold substitutions at the 57th minute, just five minutes after Jesús Vega put Tijuana up 3-0. He introduced three young players:

  • Ramiro Árciga (20 years old)
  • Gilberto Mora (16 years old)
  • Aldieri Valenzuela (22 years old, making his first-division debut)

Just four minutes later, the nightmare began. Matheus Doria ignited Atlas’ comeback with a stunning scorpion-kick goal, and then Serbian striker Uros Djurdjevic took over, netting a hat trick to complete a comeback that left Tijuana’s fans in disbelief.

FANS IN FURY, OSORIO UNDER FIRE

Tijuana supporters erupted in outrage, calling for Osorio’s resignation. The Colombian issued a heartfelt apology:

“I want to apologize to our fans. There is no justification for losing a match where we led 3-0 with just 30 minutes left.”

The devastating loss leaves Osorio’s future at Tijuana hanging by a thread. Will he survive the fallout, or is this the beginning of the end for his tenure with Xolos?
