A routine farming activity turned fatal in Ogun State as a 40-year-old farmer, Abdullahi Rasaki, lost his life when a palm tree collapsed on him at Bogije village, Ijebu Igbo.
The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident on Monday, revealing that Rasaki had gone to cut palm trees with a companion, Waheed Abbass, in the Egbe Semi Jeje area of Oke Sopen when disaster struck.
According to police spokesperson CSP Omolola Odutola, the tragic accident was reported at about 9:30 p.m. by a local resident, Gbamila Sunday. Witnesses said Rasaki screamed for help as the massive tree came crashing down on him. Nearby residents rushed to free him and quickly transported him to the General Hospital, Sagamu, but sadly, he was declared dead on arrival.
