Residents of Ore, Ondo State, are reeling from shock following the brutal assassination of a well-known businessman, Ismaila Awoyinka, by unknown gunmen.
The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the tragic incident, stating that investigations are underway to track down the perpetrators.
According to reports, Awoyinka, a dealer in building materials, was attacked near his home in the Idi Mango area, opposite Caring Heart Mega School, shortly after observing the Taraweeh prayer on Saturday night.
An eyewitness recounted the chilling moment when assailants dressed in white arrived on a motorcycle and gunned him down at close range as he approached his residence around 8:35 p.m.
The shocking news spread rapidly, drawing a crowd of mourners to his home. Many residents expressed fear and outrage over the deteriorating security situation in the area.
Reacting to the tragedy, Taiwo Adegoroye, Chairman of Odigbo Local Government Area, described the incident as a devastating loss and called for urgent security measures to prevent further violence.
Meanwhile, police have assured the public that a thorough investigation is ongoing to bring the killers to justice.
