Manchester United has announced plans to build a state-of-the-art 100,000-capacity stadium, with co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe vowing it will be “the world’s greatest football ground.”

After months of deliberation over whether to revamp Old Trafford or construct a brand-new facility, the club has officially opted for a fresh stadium in the same area as part of a massive regeneration project.

Unveiling scaled models and concept images at the London headquarters of renowned architects Foster + Partners, United emphasized their commitment to preserving Old Trafford’s legacy while embracing a modern fan experience.

“Today marks the beginning of an incredibly exciting journey,” Ratcliffe said. “Our current stadium has served us for over a century, but it’s time to take Manchester United into the future with a world-class arena.”

The project is expected to boost the UK economy by £7.3 billion annually and create around 92,000 jobs, making it one of the most ambitious urban regeneration plans since the 2012 London Olympics.

Legendary former manager Sir Alex Ferguson threw his full support behind the move, stating: “Manchester United must always strive for the best, and this new stadium will be a home fit for the future where new history can be made.”

While a start date remains unclear, United hopes to complete the stadium within five years, with parts of the structure being pre-built and transported via the Manchester Ship Canal.

CEO Omar Berrada assured fans that financing the project is a top priority, calling it “a highly attractive investment opportunity” that will secure the club’s long-term future.
