Barcelona’s promising midfielder, Marc Casado, has been ruled out for two months after suffering a knee ligament injury during the club’s thrilling 4-2 victory over Atletico Madrid last weekend.

The 21-year-old, who has been a key presence in Hansi Flick’s squad this season with 37 appearances across all competitions, was forced off in the 67th minute of the match. Following medical tests, Barcelona confirmed that Casado sustained a partial tear of the lateral collateral ligament in his right knee.

“He will undergo conservative treatment and is expected to be out for around two months,” the club stated.

Casado’s injury also sees him withdraw from Spain’s Nations League squad, dealing a double blow to both club and country.

Barcelona, currently leading La Liga ahead of Real Madrid on goal difference, are still in contention for a potential treble. They have a crucial Copa del Rey semi-final second leg against Atletico Madrid (currently tied at 4-4) and a Champions League quarter-final showdown with Borussia Dortmund next month.

With the business end of the season approaching, Flick will have to navigate a packed schedule without one of his emerging stars.
