The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) is revamping its strategies to boost voluntary tax compliance, according to its Executive Chairman, Dr. Zacch Adedeji.

Speaking at the West Africa Tax Administrators Forum (WATAF) conference in Abuja, Dr. Adedeji emphasized the critical role of effective communication in tax administration, urging corporate communications heads to take the lead in shaping public perception and policy clarity.

With tax bills currently before the National Assembly expected to enhance revenue generation, FIRS is doubling down on regional cooperation. Dr. Adedeji highlighted Nigeria’s leadership in international tax collaboration and its commitment to supporting tax policy development across West Africa.

He encouraged stakeholders to actively engage in discussions, build professional networks, and apply their knowledge to strengthen tax systems. Commending WATAF’s efforts, he reaffirmed FIRS’ dedication to fostering collaboration and capacity-building in the region.

As Nigeria looks to increase tax revenue, FIRS’ new approach aims to simplify compliance, improve taxpayer engagement, and drive economic growth.
