Niger Delta traditional rulers have thrown their weight behind the federal government’s renewal of the pipeline surveillance contract awarded to Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL), describing it as a necessary move to curb oil theft and safeguard the region’s critical infrastructure.

Speaking at a high-level stakeholders’ meeting on amnesty, pipeline surveillance, and energy security in Abuja, the Chairman of the Association of Niger Delta Monarchs of Nigeria (ANDMON), King Frank Okurakpo, applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the contract extension. He emphasized that Tantita’s work has significantly reduced pipeline vandalism and improved security in the oil-rich region.

According to Okurakpo, the company’s community-driven approach has fostered local involvement in protecting vital oil assets. “The President has demonstrated his commitment to fast-tracking the Niger Delta’s development. A clear example is the appointment of Dr. Dennis Burutu Otuaro to lead the Presidential Amnesty Programme. His leadership is already making a positive impact,” he noted.

The monarchs further urged the government to allocate more resources for sustaining peace and empowering former agitators, stressing that economic stability is key to long-term security in the region.

Additionally, they commended the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Engineer Mele Kyari, for his leadership in stabilizing fuel prices, citing the recent drop in Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) prices as proof of effective management.

Calling for unity among Niger Delta residents, the monarchs emphasized that collective support for government initiatives is essential for lasting peace and economic transformation.

“We must stand together to ensure the successful implementation of policies that directly impact our people. Unity and cooperation are the keys to a thriving Niger Delta,” they affirmed.

Reiterating their commitment to peace, the traditional rulers pledged to collaborate with the government, security agencies, and other stakeholders to foster stability and development in the region.
