Residents of Rivers State are on edge as the Niger Delta Rescue Movement (NDRM), a militant group, has issued a chilling warning, urging non-indigenes to leave the state amidst escalating political tensions.

The group has also threatened to disrupt oil production if the federal government fails to release the state’s allocation promptly. This comes in response to the Supreme Court’s ruling that halted the state’s allocation until a valid House of Assembly, led by Martin Amaewhule, is constituted.

In a viral video, militants armed with rifles were seen deep in a forest, chanting and delivering a stern message. “We will not sit back and watch our state descend into crisis,” their spokesperson declared, accusing certain political figures of destabilizing Rivers State.

They also called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene and stop what they described as a coordinated attempt to create unrest.

“If Rivers State’s rightful allocation is not released, we will be forced to take action, including disrupting oil production,” the militants warned, emphasizing that the state’s economy cannot contribute to the federation without receiving its fair share.

The group further advised non-indigenes to leave for their safety, signaling the potential for violent confrontations.

As the standoff continues, all eyes are on the federal government to see how it will address the growing crisis in the oil-rich region.
