Despite securing a 2-0 victory over Rwanda in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Friday, Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle insists there’s still plenty of work to do.
Speaking at the post-match conference in Kigali, the Malian coach acknowledged the team’s solid performance against a tough Rwandan side but stressed that improvements are necessary ahead of their next clash against Zimbabwe in Uyo on Tuesday.
“It was a difficult game because Rwanda is a good team with a great coach. But we played well too. I’m proud of my players and happy for Nigeria,” Chelle said.
The coach revealed that the team had put in extensive work over the past week, analyzing their opponents through video sessions alongside just two training practices. While pleased with the tactical execution, he admitted that there are still weaknesses to address.
“In the first half, Rwanda had only one real chance, and in the second half, we controlled possession and adjusted between different tactical systems,” he explained.
Though the win provides a confidence boost, Chelle remains focused on refining the team’s gameplay, knowing that tougher battles lie ahead. Can the Super Eagles build on this momentum and silence their critics when they face Zimbabwe?
