The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has sounded the alarm, declaring corruption as one of the biggest threats to Nigeria’s development. Vowing to combat the menace head-on, he called on all Nigerians to join the fight.
“The EFCC is determined to bring corruption to its knees, but we cannot do it alone. Every Nigerian must take a stand,” he stated.
As part of its strategy to instill a culture of integrity from a young age, the EFCC has introduced “Integrity Clubs” in primary and secondary schools across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The initiative aims to shape the values of honesty, courage, and diligence in young Nigerians, ensuring they grow into ethical future leaders.
Speaking at the launch event in Abuja, Olukoyede—represented by EFCC’s Director of Public Affairs, Wilson Uwujaren—emphasized that the program is designed to make children active participants in the fight against corruption.
“These clubs will serve as platforms for students to discuss integrity, learn about resisting corruption, and embrace positive values. By catching them young, we can build a future where corruption is not tolerated,” he explained.
The EFCC’s approach is not just about enforcement but also prevention. “There is no better way to fight corruption than through personal resistance. Every citizen must choose to be part of the solution,” Olukoyede stressed.
Dr. Hassan Sule, Acting Chairman of the FCT Universal Basic Education Board, applauded the EFCC’s initiative, describing it as a proactive measure to curb corruption at its roots. “Prevention is always better than cure. By instilling integrity in young minds, we are securing a responsible and ethical future generation,” he said.
He further announced that the board would introduce Integrity Clubs in at least 30 schools across the FCT, ensuring that the values of accountability and honesty become a fundamental part of students’ education.
As Nigeria continues its battle against financial crimes, the EFCC’s latest move signals a strategic shift—one that targets the future by shaping a new generation of corruption-free leaders.
