Passengers aboard Cunard’s Queen Anne cruise ship experienced a surreal and nerve-wracking moment as the vessel entered waters notoriously linked to piracy. Lilly, also known as Pink, documented the eerie experience, sharing a video of an ominous ship-wide announcement that sent shivers down the spines of those onboard.
“We will be operating at a heightened level of security alertness during this period,” a voice rang out over the intercom, urging guests to take precautions.
As the sun set, the ship transformed into a ghostly shadow on the ocean. Deck lights were extinguished, curtains drawn tight, and the external decks locked down. The eerie directive even asked guests to turn off their stateroom lights, submerging the luxury cruise liner in near-total darkness to avoid attracting unwanted attention.
Lilly described the experience as unsettling, admitting that watching the ship vanish into the darkness felt like stepping into a real-life thriller. “All the outside lights on open decks were turned off. The curtains and blinds were also closed to keep the ship as dark as possible.”

Cruise industry expert Stewart Chiron, known as “The Cruise Guy,” reassured travelers that while such security measures are rare, they are taken seriously. “It’s rare for cruise ships to traverse pirate-infested areas and they wouldn’t do so if unsafe. Over the years, cruise ships have avoided these areas or sailed along with military escorts.”
