Rivers State Gets New SSG: Sole Administrator Charges Prof. Ibibia Worika to Deliver Effective Governance

In a move that signals a fresh direction for governance in Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), the Sole Administrator of the state, has sworn in Professor Ibibia Worika as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG). The swearing-in ceremony took place on Wednesday at the Executive Chambers of Government House, marking the beginning of Worika’s pivotal role in the administration.

Ibas, who had recently suspended all government and political office holders, including the former SSG, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, expressed confidence in Worika’s abilities, urging him to leverage his vast experience in law, policy, and international governance to restore law, order, and public trust in the state. According to the Administrator, Worika’s appointment is not just an administrative decision but a strategic move to elevate governance in Rivers.

In his address, Ibas described the new SSG’s task as “onerous,” but assured that his extensive expertise would be crucial in meeting the challenges ahead. “Rivers State needs your intellect, grit, and unwavering dedication,” Ibas stated. “Together, we will write a new chapter of progress for this great state.”

Highlighting the importance of Worika’s role, Ibas emphasized that the new SSG would be vital in ensuring every policy, decision, and action aligns with the administration’s mission to stabilize the polity, restore law and order, and rebuild democratic institutions. “You have no time to settle down. You must roll up your sleeves and get to work,” Ibas urged Worika, stressing the need for immediate action.

The Sole Administrator also reiterated the critical role of civil servants in this administration, calling for their cooperation and support to ensure that the state continues to function smoothly. “Our civil servants are key stakeholders, and we must work closely with them to achieve our objectives during this administration,” he added.
