Where Is Dewey? Erik Per Sullivan’s Shocking Exit & The Truth Behind His Disappearance

Vancouver – “Malcolm in the Middle” fans have been buzzing with one big question—where is Erik Per Sullivan, the unforgettable face behind Dewey? As the beloved sitcom gears up for its highly anticipated revival, Sullivan is nowhere to be seen, and the reason behind his absence might just surprise you.

Sullivan, now 33, has officially retired from acting, leaving behind a legacy that fans still cherish. Despite being a scene-stealer in the original series from 2000 to 2006, he quietly stepped away from Hollywood in 2010. While many of his co-stars are back, Dewey is being portrayed by Caleb Ellsworth-Clark (“Fargo,” “The Expanse”), marking a controversial shift that has left fans divided.

After “Malcolm in the Middle” wrapped up, Sullivan dabbled in a few more projects, including “Come on Over” and the animated film “Arthur and the Invisibles.” His final on-screen role was in the 2010 teen crime drama “Twelve.” Then, he vanished from the industry completely, skipping every cast reunion over the years.

So, what really happened? According to Jane Kaczmarek (Lois), who recently spoke with Malcolm France, Sullivan simply lost interest in acting. Instead, he pursued a degree in Victorian literature at a prestigious American university.

Reflecting on his decision to step away, Kaczmarek said, “I admire it because so many people think being in show business is the greatest thing in the world. It’s not for everyone.”

While fans may never see Sullivan reprise his role as Dewey, his absence only adds to the nostalgia and curiosity surrounding the show’s revival. Will Ellsworth-Clark be able to fill those iconic shoes, or is this recast doomed to disappoint? Either way, the debate is on.
