In a significant boost to bilateral security ties, Nigeria and Germany have signed a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance defence cooperation through the German Technical Advisory Group.

Announced in Abuja on Friday by Principal Information Officer Mr. Sunday Iyogu of the Ministry of Defence, the agreement underscores both nations’ commitment to strengthening military collaboration, security frameworks, and capacity-building initiatives.

Strategic Defence Partnership for a Secure Future

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Gabriel Aduda, described the agreement as a “strategic counterpart funding arrangement” that reflects the deep-rooted military partnership between Nigeria and Germany. He highlighted that the renewed pact aligns with both nations’ shared security objectives, ensuring long-term stability and development.

Aduda further assured that Nigeria would prioritize accountability, efficiency, and strict adherence to timelines in implementing the agreement. He emphasized that all procurement aspects would be thoroughly scrutinized to ensure transparency and optimal value for money.

Germany Pledges Unwavering Support

German Defence Attaché to Nigeria, Col. Boris Bovekemp, reaffirmed Germany’s steadfast commitment to strengthening defence cooperation. He commended the enduring Nigeria-Germany military relationship and emphasized the importance of adapting existing agreements to tackle evolving security threats.

The renewed MoU reinforces Nigeria and Germany’s shared vision of enhanced security, military training, and technical assistance, marking yet another milestone in their growing defence alliance.
