Rockies Manager Bud Black Rerouted by Earthquake During Trip to L.A.

Colorado Rockies manager Bud Black’s journey to Los Angeles hit an unexpected snag on Monday when a 5.2-magnitude earthquake rattled Southern California, causing minor disruptions—including a delay to his travel plans.
The Rockies had just wrapped up a series against the San Diego Padres, and Black, who resides in San Diego during the offseason, was preparing to take a train from the city to Los Angeles’ Union Station ahead of the Rockies’ series with the Dodgers.
“I was down on the platform at 10:35 waiting for the 10:40 train. Perfect,” Black recounted. But shortly after, an announcement informed passengers that earthquake safety checks were being carried out on the tracks, delaying service. “I didn’t want to wait,” he said.
Instead of risking a long wait, Black opted for a ride-share to Dodger Stadium—a detour that cost him nearly $200.
“Old-school meal money used to take care of it, but not anymore,” Black joked with a smile, taking the unexpected expense in stride.
Back in San Diego, the quake was strong enough to knock items off shelves at Black’s home, but no injuries or serious damage were reported.
