The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a stern warning to Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara. Wike declared that he is ready to make public the details of the agreement reached between them before President Bola Tinubu. He stated that he would take this step if the governor fails to disclose the terms to the people of Rivers State.
Wike gave this ultimatum on Wednesday during a stakeholders’ meeting in Eleme Local Government Area. He explained that while his political risks at the national level have yielded positive results, the situation in Rivers State remains unresolved. The former governor emphasized that President Tinubu has honored his own side of their political commitments.
“If he does not tell the Rivers people the agreement we had before Mr. President, I will tell them myself,” Wike asserted. He pointed to his appointment as Minister and the inclusion of other Rivers indigenes in federal positions as proof of the benefits the state has gained from the current administration.
The FCT Minister also cautioned politicians from outside the state to steer clear of Rivers politics. He insisted that only those who understand the local political dynamics should be involved. Wike bragged that his team previously defeated the federal government when they were in opposition and would win even more now that they are allies.
Former Senator Olaka Nwogu, representing Rivers East, spoke at the event and pledged the total loyalty of the Eleme people to Wike. Nwogu claimed that since Wike left office, no major project has been attracted to their area. He reiterated that they voted for Fubara only because Wike directed them to do so.
Other local leaders, including the Chairman of Eleme Local Government Area, Obarilomate Ollor, and lawmaker Aforji Igwe, praised Wike’s leadership style. They described him as a detribalized leader who fought for a riverine governor in the interest of fairness. The stakeholders presented a plaque to Wike and vowed to support President Tinubu in 2027.
