Troops of the Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have uncovered a significant cache of high-calibre ammunition in the Bulumkutu Railway general area of Borno State. The discovery was announced on Saturday by the Spokesman of the Theatre Command, Lt. Col. Sani Uba.

According to the statement, the recovery highlights the effectiveness of ongoing intelligence-driven security operations. It serves as a follow-up to recent cordon-and-search activities aimed at denying criminal elements freedom of action. The military noted that this success comes on the heels of the neutralization and capture of multiple suicide bombers in the past week.

The operation began at about 3:00 p.m. on January 2, 2026, when troops received a distress call regarding suspicious metallic objects hidden in a drainage channel. “Troops and Police EOD Teams immediately mobilised to the location to assess the situation and secure the environment,” the statement read.

Upon arrival, a thorough search of the drainage revealed 1,270 rounds of 12.7mm ammunition warheads, several live 12.7mm rounds, and power banks concealed within the channel. Lt. Col. Uba disclosed that preliminary actions have been taken to secure the site. Efforts are currently underway to drain the water in the channel to ensure no additional dangerous items remain hidden.

The military spokesman assured the public that the general security situation remains calm. He stated that troops, in conjunction with the Police and other security agencies, are dominating the area to protect critical infrastructure and prevent any attempts by terrorists to recover the items. No casualties were recorded during the operation.
