The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Katsina State Command, has reiterated its dedication to eradicating drug abuse and trafficking within the state. State Commander Samaila Danmalam disclosed the agency’s scorecard on Tuesday during an end-of-year press briefing, which also served as a decoration ceremony for 61 newly promoted officers.
Danmalam highlighted that the fight against illicit drugs requires a collective effort. He emphasized the importance of synergy, information sharing, and community policing to reduce drug offenses and preserve peace in Katsina.
Reviewing the agency’s operational achievements in 2025, the Commander revealed that intelligence-led raids and patrols resulted in the arrest of 1,018 suspects, comprising 992 males and 26 females. These operations successfully disrupted several illicit drug networks across the state.
The Command also recorded significant seizures totaling 2,473.755kg of illicit substances. The breakdown includes 1,667.747kg of Cannabis Sativa, 12.348kg of Codeine, and 793.66kg of various psychotropic substances.
On the legal front, Danmalam reported that the agency secured the arraignment of 86 suspects and achieved the conviction of 87 individuals during the period under review.
Furthermore, under the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) initiative championed by the NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd), the command executed 203 sensitization programs reaching 75,135 beneficiaries. The unit also counseled 451 clients and admitted 58 individuals for rehabilitation.
Despite these successes, the Commander pointed out significant logistical hurdles hampering operations, including a lack of operational vehicles, poor office infrastructure, and inadequate accommodation for officers. He appealed to the government, stakeholders, and philanthropists to assist the Command in overcoming these challenges.
