The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 27-year-old man, identified as Usman Azeez, over the alleged defilement of a 14-year-old girl in Iseyin Local Government Area of the state.
The police said the incident was reported on January 15, 2026, at the Ado-Awaye Police Division, prompting the immediate deployment of operatives to the area.
In a statement issued in Ibadan, the Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly committed the offence while the minor was on her way to fetch water from a nearby river.
According to the police, the victim was promptly taken for medical examination, which provided evidence consistent with the allegation. The suspect was subsequently arrested and is currently in police custody.
The police spokesperson added that the suspect reportedly confessed during interrogation, while investigations are ongoing ahead of his arraignment in court.
In a separate operation, operatives of the command also recovered a locally fabricated firearm, ammunition and a stolen motorcycle during a routine stop-and-search along the Oyo–Ibadan Expressway in Oyo West Local Government Area.
The police said two suspects abandoned the motorcycle and fled upon sighting patrol officers. Further checks later confirmed that the motorcycle had earlier been stolen at gunpoint.
The Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, has directed that all cases be subjected to thorough and intelligence-driven investigations, assuring residents that the command remains committed to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
