Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he will represent President Bola Tinubu at the 2026 African Union Summit.

The summit, themed “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063,” will focus on strengthening continental commitments to sustainable water management, improved sanitation, and broader development goals outlined in the African Union’s long-term vision.

In a statement, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha, said the Vice President will join other African leaders at the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government, as well as the 30th General Assembly, scheduled for February 14 and 15, 2026.

During his stay in Addis Ababa, Shettima is expected to participate in high-level side events and hold strategic bilateral meetings with political and business leaders. These engagements are aimed at deepening Nigeria’s diplomatic relations, expanding economic cooperation, and strengthening strategic partnerships across Africa.

The Vice President is accompanied by cabinet ministers and other senior government officials as part of Nigeria’s delegation to the summit.

He is expected to return to Nigeria after completing his official engagements at the continental gathering.
