Troops of the Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have seized approximately ₦37 million in cash and multiple mobile phones suspected to be linked to terrorist activities, while also neutralising a senior Boko Haram commander in Borno State.

The recovery occurred during a routine interception at the Forward Operating Base Chabbal Checkpoint, where the JTF stopped a vehicle carrying five occupants along known insurgent routes. According to JTF spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Sani Uba, the operation was part of ongoing efforts to dismantle the financial and logistical networks supporting terrorist groups in the North East.

In a separate engagement, troops successfully repelled coordinated attacks by terrorists on Pulka and Mandaragirau communities in Gwoza Local Government Area. During the clashes, a senior Boko Haram leader, identified as Abou Aisha, was critically injured and killed. Significant weapons and equipment were recovered in the operation.

Uba noted that while some members of the Civilian Joint Task Force supporting the operations paid the ultimate price, there were no troop fatalities. Injured personnel were promptly evacuated using OPHK’s air assets and Nigerian Army aviation platforms.

“The operations represent a deliberate effort to disrupt insurgents’ supply chains and deny them freedom of movement. Troops maintained momentum from previous defensive actions, transitioning decisively into logistics-strangulation strategies to cripple terrorist networks,” Uba said.

He added that the terrorists launched attacks from the Sambisa Forest axis on the night of February 14–16, but JTF forces responded with intense firefights, forcing the attackers to retreat in disarray. The sacrifices of both troops and civilian volunteers were praised as embodying the highest traditions of service and courage in defence of Nigeria.
