The Executive Chairman of Ado Local Government Council, Hon. Engr. Sunny Oche, has been conferred with the Champion of Grassroots Women’s Development Award by Alia Generation Women World Wide in recognition of his administration’s deliberate and impactful strides in advancing the welfare, inclusion, and economic empowerment of women at the grassroots.
The honour was presented on 20th February 2026 at the Old Banquet Hall, Government House, Makurdi, Benue State, during a well-attended ceremony that drew political leaders, women advocates, and stakeholders from across the state. The Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia (Ph.D), was represented at the occasion by the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Alfred Emberga Berger.
Hon. Engr. Sunny Oche was physically present at the early stage of the programme, where he acknowledged the organisers and appreciated the recognition accorded to him. However, owing to prior official commitments, the Chairman respectfully vacated the venue and returned to Ado Local Government Area to attend the Local Government APC Congress.
Consequently, the award plaque was formally received on his behalf by Pastor Aboh Okibe.
The recognition underscores the Chairman’s consistent support for women-focused initiatives, inclusive governance, and programmes designed to expand opportunities for women and vulnerable groups within Ado Local Government Area.
Ado Local Government Council views this honour as both a validation of ongoing efforts and a renewed call to deepen partnerships with women groups, community leaders, and development stakeholders in pursuit of sustainable grassroots transformation.
