Former presidential candidate and Labour Party leader, Peter Obi, has expressed heartfelt gratitude to Nigerians across the world for their prayers, calls, and overwhelming support following the incident at the African Democratic Congress (ADC) office in Benin, Edo State.

In a message released on Wednesday, Obi described the show of solidarity as deeply moving, especially at a time of national concern and emotional strain. He extended special sympathy to the family of the respected elder statesman and former governor of Edo State, Chief John Oyegun, as well as former governor, Professor Oserheimen Osunbor, whose families were affected by the troubling development.

Obi said the massive outpouring of love and encouragement strengthened his belief in Nigeria’s shared humanity and collective desire for a better society. He noted that such unity during difficult moments reflects the nation’s enduring spirit and capacity for compassion.

Reflecting on his political journey, Obi recalled how past experiences of violence and insecurity in Anambra State shaped his decision to seek public office, driven by a commitment to restore order, safety, and public confidence. He lamented that the rising wave of lawlessness across the country now demands stronger civic responsibility from Nigerians of good conscience.

He urged citizens not to withdraw from public participation but to remain active in shaping the nation’s political direction, warning that silence and indifference allow poor leadership to thrive. According to him, Nigeria’s future depends on the collective resolve of its people to demand accountable, competent, and compassionate leadership.

Obi emphasized that this moment calls for renewed determination to elect leaders defined by integrity, service, and genuine concern for national progress. He stressed that leadership must prioritize the welfare of citizens above personal ambition and political power.
