President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the promotion of Ibrahim Masari to the position of Special Adviser on Political Affairs, upgrading his previous role within the presidency.
The development was disclosed on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who confirmed that Masari will now serve in a more senior capacity within the administration.
According to the statement, Masari will collaborate closely with Yau Darazo, who has been serving as Special Adviser on Political Affairs since his appointment in July 2023.
Masari, a long-time political associate of President Tinubu, was initially appointed in 2023 as Senior Special Assistant on Political Affairs. His elevation places him in a higher advisory role, reflecting increased responsibilities within the presidency.
Before joining the current administration, the Katsina-born politician played an active role in party affairs within the All Progressives Congress. He previously served as the party’s Welfare Secretary during the tenure of former national chairman Adams Oshiomhole.
Within the structure of the presidential advisory team, Special Advisers typically hold more strategic responsibilities and have closer access to the President compared to Senior Special Assistants.
Masari has remained an influential figure in the President’s political network, particularly in the North-West, where he has been involved in party coordination and mobilisation efforts.
His new role, like other presidential aide positions, does not require confirmation by the National Assembly as such appointments are made directly by the President.
