Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the posting of 65 ambassadors-designate to Nigerian diplomatic missions across the world, including key international postings at the United Nations.

The deployment includes 31 non-career ambassadors and 34 career diplomats whose nominations were submitted by the president in November 2025 and later confirmed by the Senate in December after screening.

According to a statement released by the president’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the postings are aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic presence globally after months of vacant missions.

Among the prominent political figures on the list is former presidential aide Reno Omokri, who has been posted as Nigeria’s ambassador to Mexico.

Former aviation minister Femi Fani-Kayode has been assigned to Germany, while former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mahmood Yakubu, will serve as ambassador to Qatar.

Other notable non-career appointments include former presidential adviser Ita Enang as ambassador to South Africa and former Chief of Naval Staff Ibok-Ete Ibas as ambassador to the Philippines.

Senator Jimoh Ibrahim will serve as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

Former governors Okezie Ikpeazu and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi have been posted to Spain and Greece respectively.

Alongside these political appointees, 34 career diplomats were also deployed to different missions around the world.

These include Nwabiola Chukwumeka to Côte d’Ivoire, Mohammed Lele to Algeria, Ahmed Monguno to Egypt, Muhammad Dahiru to India, Haidara Idris to The Hague in the Netherlands, and Sulu Olatunji to Malaysia.

The Presidency said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has begun the diplomatic procedures required for the envoys’ deployment, including obtaining agrément from host countries.

So far, the United Kingdom has approved the appointment of Aminu Dalhatu as High Commissioner, while France has granted diplomatic approval for Ayodele Oke.

President Tinubu has also directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to immediately begin the induction programme for the ambassadors and high commissioners before their formal deployment.

Analysts say the appointments are expected to fill long-standing diplomatic gaps after months of vacancies in several Nigerian missions abroad.
