Governor Hyacinth Alia has strongly condemned the latest attack in Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State, describing the incident as barbaric and unacceptable.

The attack, which occurred in Mbalom and surrounding communities, reportedly left several residents dead and others injured, further heightening concerns over insecurity in the region.

In an official statement released on Sunday, the governor expressed deep sympathy to the affected families, assuring them that the state government stands firmly with them during the difficult period. He emphasised that such acts of violence pose a serious threat to peace and stability in the state.

Alia noted that the pattern of recurring attacks suggests a coordinated effort by criminal elements to destabilise communities. He, however, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to confronting all forms of insecurity and ensuring that perpetrators are brought to justice.

The governor also commended security agencies for their swift response to the incident and ongoing operations in the area. He urged them to intensify efforts to prevent further attacks and restore lasting peace to affected communities.

Local authorities confirmed that the assailants stormed the area in the evening, carrying out the нападение within a short period before fleeing. One of the victims is said to be receiving medical treatment, while security personnel have been deployed to maintain order.

Residents had reportedly received prior warnings of a possible attack, raising fresh concerns about the vulnerability of rural communities despite existing security alerts.
