An air operation carried out by the Nigerian Air Force has reportedly left several civilians injured after a strike hit a crowded market located along the border between Borno State and Yobe State.

The incident occurred on Saturday evening at a popular trading hub in Yobe, situated close to communities in Borno. The market is known for attracting traders and buyers from multiple surrounding towns, making it a busy commercial point.

Authorities confirmed awareness of the situation but said investigations were still ongoing. The spokesperson of the Yobe State Police Command, Dungus Abdulkarim, stated that officials were working to verify details, including the number of casualties.

According to him, security personnel have been deployed to assess the situation and gather accurate information before issuing an official update.

Local accounts suggest that the airstrike was part of a military operation targeting insurgents believed to be active in the area. Sources claimed that the fighters often infiltrate the market to collect levies from traders and obtain supplies.

However, eyewitnesses indicated that the strike may have missed its intended target, resulting in civilian casualties. Unconfirmed reports suggest that several people lost their lives, while many others sustained injuries.

Emergency response teams were seen evacuating victims, with the injured taken to medical facilities in nearby towns for treatment.
