As Nigerian Muslims join the global Islamic community in observing Ramadan, the sacred month extends beyond fasting—it is a period of spiritual renewal, self-discipline, and communal bonding.

Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is a time to strengthen one’s relationship with God through fasting, prayers, and recitation of the Qur’an, which was revealed to Prophet Muhammad during this holy month. It is also a season of charity, patience, and self-control—virtues that extend beyond personal devotion to shape a more just and compassionate society.

Beyond abstaining from food and drink, Ramadan calls for reflection on unity, peace, and nation-building. It presents an opportunity for Nigerians to bridge divides—tribal, religious, and economic—and foster harmony across all levels of society.

One of the core lessons of Ramadan is empathy. The fast puts the wealthy and the privileged in the shoes of the poor, urging them to share their resources with those in need. Unfortunately, many Nigerians already endure daily hardship due to economic instability, insecurity, and poor governance. Rising food prices, inflation, and unemployment have made survival even more difficult for the less privileged.

While citizens strive for spiritual growth, leaders must also rise to the occasion by addressing the suffering of the people. There must be greater investment in security, agriculture, and economic relief to ease the burden on Nigerians. Traders and transporters should also resist the temptation to exploit the season for excessive profiteering—Allah rewards fairness, not greed.

Ramadan is not just about personal piety; it is about collective progress. It is a call to love, peace, and sacrifice for the greater good. As Nigerians, regardless of faith, we must work together to build a nation free from hatred, violence, corruption, and division.

Let us also remember our brave military personnel risking their lives to combat terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping. Their sacrifices deserve our prayers and support.

May this Ramadan bring blessings, peace, and prosperity to all. Ramadan Kareem!
