Tensions are rising in Rivers State as the Rivers Restoration Movement (RRM) has called for the immediate arrest of former militant leader Alhaji Asari Dokubo and other prominent Ijaw figures over alleged threats to disrupt oil production if Governor Siminalayi Fubara is impeached.

The group’s Director-General, Johnson Georgewill, accused Dokubo, Ijaw National Congress (INC) President Prof. Benjamin Okaba, and PANDEF’s National Publicity Secretary, High Chief Anabs Sara-Igbe, of making statements that could destabilize national security and the economy.

“As a group committed to peace and justice, we believe no one has a monopoly on violence,” Georgewill stated, urging security agencies to take swift action.

He also questioned why these leaders had not spoken up for the nine Ijaw lawmakers allegedly mistreated by Fubara’s administration, despite court rulings on their status.
