Tensions are rising in Rivers State as the Rivers Restoration Movement (RRM) has called for the immediate arrest of former militant leader Alhaji Asari Dokubo and other prominent Ijaw figures over alleged threats to disrupt oil production if Governor Siminalayi Fubara is impeached.

The group’s Director-General, Johnson Georgewill, accused Dokubo, Ijaw National Congress (INC) President Prof. Benjamin Okaba, and PANDEF’s National Publicity Secretary, High Chief Anabs Sara-Igbe, of making statements that could destabilize national security and the economy.

“As a group committed to peace and justice, we believe no one has a monopoly on violence,” Georgewill stated, urging security agencies to take swift action.

He also questioned why these leaders had not spoken up for the nine Ijaw lawmakers allegedly mistreated by Fubara’s administration, despite court rulings on their status.

Meanwhile, Rivers State Police Commissioner, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, assured residents that security agencies were fully prepared to contain any threats. He dismissed militant warnings to attack oil facilities or force non-indigenes out of the state, stating that the police would not allow any attempt to destabilize Rivers.

“Governor Fubara has handled the situation with maturity, and the police remain fully in control,” Adepoju assured.

Residents have been urged to go about their lawful activities as security agencies remain on high alert to maintain stability in the state.
