A pastor has reportedly been killed after armed men attacked a church programme in Eda Oniyo, Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
The incident happened on Tuesday evening during an outdoor crusade in the community. Witnesses said the attackers arrived suddenly, fired shots, and caused worshippers to run for safety.
Several people were also said to have been taken away by the gunmen, who reportedly moved their victims into a nearby forest.
Residents claimed the abducted persons included women, elderly members, and children who attended the religious gathering.
The number of those kidnapped has not yet been officially confirmed, but the attack has left the community in fear.
A government source said security agencies had been mobilised to the area and had started efforts to locate the attackers and rescue those taken.
Authorities are hopeful the victims will be found unharmed.
Police officials had not issued a formal statement as of the time this report was prepared.
The incident has renewed concerns over attacks on rural communities and places of worship in parts of the country.
