At least 29 persons have reportedly lost their lives after suspected gunmen invaded Guyaku and Telabala communities in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
Residents said the attackers struck during a football match held at a local primary school on Sunday evening. Panic spread across the area as gunshots forced many people to run for safety.
The assault came days after another violent incident in Mayo Ladde, Hong Local Government Area, where several properties, including worship centres, were destroyed.
Eyewitnesses said families were left in tears as they counted their losses after the latest attack.
Governor Umaru Fintiri later visited the affected communities to assess the damage and sympathise with victims. He described the killings as painful and unfortunate.
Fintiri assured residents that the state government would continue to work closely with security agencies to improve safety and stop further attacks.
During the visit, burnt structures, damaged motorcycles, and residents leaving the area with their belongings were seen.
The traditional ruler of Gombi Chiefdom, Aggrey Bechour-Ali, said security agencies had earlier warned communities about possible threats and advised caution during celebrations.
The fresh violence has again raised concerns over insecurity in rural parts of Adamawa State, with many calling for urgent action.
