Nigeria’s 2027 political season gathered momentum on Tuesday as President Bola Tinubu and several leading members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured nomination forms to contest various offices.
Tinubu’s form was obtained by House of Representatives member James Faleke, who said the purchase was made on behalf of supporters across the country. Faleke expressed confidence that the President would return for another term.
He also dismissed concerns over opposition coalition talks, saying the APC remains focused and prepared for the next election cycle.
At the state level, Lagos Deputy Governor Dr Obafemi Hamzat received major backing after the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) endorsed him as the party’s preferred governorship candidate.
The endorsement signals growing internal support for Hamzat as political succession plans begin to unfold in Lagos State.
Across other states, several aspirants also entered governorship and legislative races by purchasing their forms.
In Ogun State, Senator Solomon Adeola joined the governorship contest, while in Nasarawa, former Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Adamu declared interest in the APC governorship ticket.
Businessman Tonye Cole also obtained forms to contest the Rivers State governorship election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has already released dates for party primaries and the 2027 general elections, setting the stage for a busy political calendar.
With forms now on sale, analysts say fresh alignments, endorsements and internal battles are expected in the coming months.
