A joint security operation has successfully eliminated Maigemu, a notorious leader of the Lakurawa terror group, in Kebbi State.
Alhaji AbdulRahman Usman-Zagga, the state’s Director of Security, confirmed the development on Friday, revealing that Maigemu was neutralized on Thursday in Kuncin Baba, a remote area in Arewa Local Government, after an intense gun battle.
The breakthrough comes just a week after Governor Nasir Idris visited Bagiza and Rausa Kade communities to commiserate with residents over the killing of six people by suspected Lakurawa cattle rustlers. During his visit, the governor assured the affected communities of reinforced security and strategic action against criminal elements.
“Today, his proactive approach has yielded results with the elimination of this kingpin. His corpse is available as evidence,” Usman-Zagga stated.
He praised the governor for his unwavering commitment to security and the continuous logistical support provided to operatives in the fight against crime. He also urged residents to remain vigilant and collaborate with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities to ensure lasting peace in the state.
Lakurawa, a terror group operating across Sokoto and Kebbi states from Niger Republic, has been a major driver of insecurity in the North-West region. However, with this latest success, authorities are hopeful for a more secure Kebbi State.
